Snow Moon, Imbolc & upcoming events: CALM
This week we have the first New Moon of the year. This New Moon in Aquarius is referred to by Native America Cultures as “Snow Moon” aptly named for there, snow typically falls heavy this time of year. The Snow moon is thought to represent purity and renewal. It coincides with the pagan sabbat Imbolc which occurs a few days later.
This year we have 12 new moons and each one is a chance to take a moment for get clear about what you actually want in your life. By taking time to consider this, we start to move into a space where you know what you want and start taking the steps you need in order to create it. In a nutshell get clear on your goals and take action. This Aquarian New moon invites us to use a fresh perspective. It’s time to welcome a fresh start and so I ask what is shifting for you now.?
Once you know what you want, write it all down, visualise it and turn it into an affirmation, or you can write action steps…I have given examples of both below. Whichever you decide, take a moment to connect with how you will feel when your desires come true and harness these feelings into action. .
I like to be explicit in my musings so to get you started I’m going to share what is shifting for me now and what my goals are for this lunar cylce
In October last year my cat died..one minute he was well, six weeks later he was gone. I’ve had real difficulty grieving him. I can’t empty his drawer or throw his food bowl and such out. Nor his bed. I can’t look where he is buried nor sit on the bench I used to sit on with him for my morning or afternoon cuppa…I feel like I can’t let go nor remember him. Sometimes it’s like he was never here. It’s denial I’m sure. Its bizarre but he was more than a cat…he was my best litte furry friend who followed me everywhere and was very entertaining. I have noticed that when I look at photos, I laugh as I remember him or it triggers a memory of how I cuddled him and he hated it but endured it for me. It warms my heart to see him. But you know, these days, most photos are on our phones! And so I think this is how I heal…to see him. I’m going to honour him and have his photo put on a candle or two by a very talented friend. I’ve just literally sent the email.
My affirmation is….I will start accepting and shifting my grief by honouring Tommy, using a photo candle to reconnect to all our happy memories and time together. Whenever I feel sad or want to connect with him, I will sit quietly and light my candle, remember and laugh at all his silly antics.
Additionally…I also need to get fit again and shift the weight I’ve accumulated since October, not only for my physical health, but to help with perimenopause, to support the aging process and for my mental health… so I have decided to….this time using action steps…
1) clean the garage so the gym space is inviting
2) write myself a training programme
3) commit to training for 20 or 30 minutes three times per week only ( so as not to overwhelm myself)
I commit to this goal wholeheartedly
Interestingly this new moon also positively aligns with Jupiter offering lucky breaks! Exciting! Also an alignment with Venus and Neptune could bring romance for anyone who is looking for love or deepening a romantic relationship…..maybe even the one with yourself! Honour yourself and set those goals.
Imbolc - just a few words…
1 - 2nd Feb
Imbolc is about transition, slowing down and enjoying the time, the changes and magic little moments that happen between winter and spring. Its taking notice of the discreet changes in the space, the light , the awakening …the things we miss when we just rush and jump from winter to spring. Take moment to look around and see how nature is slowly starting to wake up…what’s waking up in you? Notice how in rhythm (or not) you are with nature when you slow down and connect to yourSELF. What are. you plans for spring…what do you need to clear out; what do you want to create space for more of when it comes to spring. Now is the time to prepare.
